If you love to read in the tub, but are always worried you’ll drop your Kindle or book in the water, worry no more. Get a luxury bathtub caddy that will hold your books, glasses, candles and phone in a safe and dry place. You can also spice up your baths and showers with some music from your waterproof speakers.

Blackout curtains for sleeping in

If you’re tired of the sun waking you up early on your free day, then you must invest in a new window treatment for your bedroom. Blackout curtains come in all sizes, colors and styles, so get one for your bedroom and sleep in as much as you want. No more distractions.

Boost your comfort with furniture

If you think there’s no place more comfortable than your bed or your sofa, keep in mind that everything can be improved. So, splurge on some high-quality sheets and pillowcases that will make you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud. You can also retire your old sofa and replace it with a modern, chic and comfortable model perfect for all those lazy days in front of the TV.

Enjoy some aromatherapy

Since smell is one of our strongest senses, make sure to satisfy it with some relaxing aromatherapy. Get some scented candles or diffusers and put them all around your home. Opt for lavender that helps you sleep, pine that relieves stress, vanilla that regulates your mood or jasmine that helps ease depression. On the other hand, if strong smells make you feel nauseated, you can invest in an air purifier that will ensure your indoor air is clean and odorless.

Make the temperature just right

It’s very hard to relax and unwind when you’re swimming in your own sweat. So, get a powerful air conditioner that will keep you chill even during the hottest of summer days. If you live in an area with a colder climate, there are high-quality Frigidaire ACs that can also warm up your place in the fall and winter and achieve the perfect temperature for relaxation all year round. Some models also carry an Energy Star label which means that they help conserve energy and help our aching planet.

Improve lighting

If you feel like your home lacks romance, you can easily fix that. You can set the perfect relaxing atmosphere with some string lights or lamps with darker shades. They will provide you with soft lighting that will make every evening more chill and romantic. Himalayan salt lamps will also make your home a warm and healthy place you’ll never want to leave. If you’re pretty satisfied with your existing fixtures, you can simply install dimmers on your general lighting.

Introduce some greenery to your home

It’s scientifically proven that plants have a positive effect on people. They help reduce stress, boost the feeling of well-being, and help us concentrate and unwind. Additionally, they help improve air quality and reduce noise pollution. All of these things will make your home more comfortable and relaxing, so grab some planters and choose your indoor plants. While some plant types require quite a lot of care, others (succulents, cacti, peace lilies and snake plants) require minimal watering and light, which makes them perfect for all beginner gardeners.

Don’t neglect your outdoor space

Make your outdoor space match your interior and boost its style. Hang a few hammocks in your backyard for lazy summer days or get some lounge chairs for your deck. Another thing you can do is build a fire pit. You’ll spend countless evenings chatting by the fire while it subtly illuminates your beautiful backyard decoration and landscaping. And don’t forget to stock up on marshmallows for roasting!

If you give all of these relaxation tips a try, your home will turn into the most desirable vacation destination in the world.

Mad Men Furniture for the Perfect Man Cave

A Man Cave is an exciting space to decorate and there are many different ways you can decide to go to get whatever look you want. One of those ways would be to adopt the ‘Mad Men’ appeal. But unlike most of other options, this one requires a little bit more of planning and making sure that you pick the right furniture for your space. To help you with that, here are some tips and furniture that could help you pull off the perfect “Mad Men” look for your man cave.

The Egg Chair

A man cave is nothing without a recliner and the Eames lounge chair is the best for the job. Nothing spells comfort and class better than the Eames Chair with its leather and fine finish. The Ottoman is definitely going to be a great addition that would see your comfort skyrocket and add loads of value to your man cave. If you don’t have the budget for this, you can get a little creative and opt for a replica of the Egg Chair. It might not be a recliner but packs loads of comfort and style and will be a great contrast to your space.

Bar Cart

If you are intent on getting that Mad Men look down to the wire, there is no question that a bar is going to be a big part of your interior design. If your budget and space allows, by all means you can go all out but, a bar cart is usually a creative way of keeping your vodka and scotch visible without breaking the bank. The best thing about Mid-century themed bar carts is that they are as diverse as you would like your alcohol and you would be spoilt for choice getting the one that best fits your décor.

Cater to the guests

A man cave is not complete until ‘The Alphas’ come in, check it out and give it a thumbs up. If they like the place, you can rest assured yours will the new meeting spot and that will mean you’ve got to get extra furniture. The type of furniture you get should coincide with the kinds of activities you guys engage in the most. If you watch a lot of games on TV, a retro leather sofa would be a perfect piece for the man cave or other types of retro furniture as seen on Mad Men. It is comfortable and spacious and it won’t take up all your space so it doesn’t feel cramped.

If you would rather play poker or some friendly gambling, then you could think of more creative options like the Tulip Style Chair. You should not forget that while the furniture has to be functional, its touch of class should not require introduction and the contrast should allow the pieces you choose to be easily visible. That’s how you grab attention and stay ahead of the pack.

The table

The mighty table! You might not even need one but why should you pass on the chance for the perfect Mad Men look. After all, you never know what the future holds. You might not need a table now but, you will definitely need one on the future. You have quite a number of options depending on your preferred look and the intended use for the table. If you are just looking for a place to hold your popcorns while you get the door, something trendy, classy and that screams Mad Men in Caps, the Noguchi Coffee Table would be a perfect fit. If you have kids around and you fear they might break the glass, there is a wooden version of it that is just as attractive and breath-taking.  You can also go for the wide range of tulip style tables on the market but you want to concentrate your energy on the ones that are not high reaching.

Rug

You need a great rug to over some of that floor and give it more of a comfortable feeling. The last thing you want is to have your feet constantly feeling the cold floor. This is the one place that is not going to be a battle. It might be with regards to colour but, shaggy rugs take the day head and shoulder above any other type of rug you can consider. Furthermore, they are quite comfortable with that squishy feel under your feet.

And, there you have it! The perfect Mad Men themed man cave! It is all about blending the perfect mid-century furniture in terms of themes and colours and the picks you have just read about will definitely help you achieve that.

Add a Touch of Metal for and Elegant Living Space

Metallic finishes have gained a lot in popularity recently due to their elegant quality which adds a whole different atmosphere to the living space. No matter whether your home is modern or vintage, you’ll be able to find a perfect metallic tone to give it that final touch. And, in order to help you with that, we’ve prepared a list of some useful and inspirational ideas.

Gold and copper for warm spaces

If you prefer warm vintage spaces, gold and copper are exactly what you’re looking for. For example, you can opt for beautiful gold chandeliers that will make your house look truly glamorous and contribute to that rustic atmosphere which you’re trying to achieve. The same goes for copper which is a great choice for bathrooms, and our favourites are definitely elegant copper faucets that will make your bathroom look exceptionally sophisticated. Finally, other warm-toned materials that we heartily recommend are brass and bronze.

Silver and steel for a cool modern look

On the other hand, if you appreciate the coolness of modern spaces, silver and steel should be your first choice when decorating your place. We particularly like the idea of a silver finish on furniture since it can turn even an old plain piece into a super chic item which will look as good as new. On top of that, this is a great way to combine vintage and modern design and thus strike a perfect balance between them. Just imagine how beautiful your bathroom would look with a Victorian style dresser painted in a modern silver tone! Furthermore, steel has gained quite a lot in popularity recently owing to its affordability and strength. On top of that, when combined with chromium, you get stainless steel that is not susceptible to rust and thus easy to clean. In other words, this material is both super practical and extremely fashionable, so we encourage you to give it a try as soon as possible.

Make your own colour combinations

Another great thing about these metallic shades is that they give you a lot of space to experiment and come up with unique ways of combining them. For example, a brass coffee table can go perfectly with a silver-coloured sofa. Additionally, once you’ve decided on a colour pattern, you can add some other details to your living room to make it look even more stylish. Modern designer mirrors will contribute to making your place look more spacious, and they will serve as a great decoration. On top of that, mirrors will reflect the sunrays thus filling your room with daylight that will additionally accentuate the beauty of metallic tones.

Strike a perfect balance

Although you can’t go wrong with incorporating metallic shades into your house design, you should keep in mind that sticking solely to them can be overwhelming and have the opposite effect. Therefore, we advise you to combine them with some softer textures. For example, if you go for goldish chairs, you can refurbish their seating and back and go for soft velvet that will break the monotony creating an inviting atmosphere in your dining room.

Go minimalistic

Finally, going for metallic shades is a great choice if you want to achieve a minimalistic design. For example, instead of overburdening your place with insufficient accessories, you can go for a beautiful copper flower pot and place it on your coffee table. You’ll be surprised to see how much of a change such a small detail can make. Remember that often, less is more. Basically, all you need to do is find attractive pieces that will catch everybody’s eye, and metallic-coloured ones certainly fall under that category.

As you can see, there are a lot of different ways in which you can incorporate metallic shades into your home design. No matter whether you go for furniture with such finishes or some small accessories, it’s important that you express your own creativity and find your unique way of combining such items. Lastly, it’s most important that you like what you see and thus feel comfortable in your own home.

Small Living Room Decoration Ideas

But what if your house has a rather small living room? Then, you might want to apply these decoration ideas to make space looks bigger and spacious.

  1. Decorate with Mirrors

Decorating your living room with mirrors will not only give the vibe of the spacious area but also a bright room as well. That is because when you place mirrors strategically, it will give an illusion of larger space.

You need to put a mirror in central place to create a focal point. It is best to put the mirror across the window. Why is that so? By putting the mirror across the window, it reflects the view, absorb lights, and gives the illusion of another window.

  1. Draws the Eye Upward

For a room with high ceiling, the way to decorate it is using artwork and decorate the floor. This way, the eyes are drawn upward. You can play with drapes, an aesthetic one if I could say. It is better to go with neutral colors like brown.

Another way is to put art ornaments like painting or handcrafted wood. So, if you enter the room, the attention will shift from the ornaments to the ceiling.

  1. Use Neutral Colors

Neutral colored furniture, walls, or floor makes the room appear bigger. If using off-white or beige, the room seems like expanding automatically because it appears to push back the walls. Neutral colors also have calming attributes. When you enter the living room with neutral colors, you will feel homey instantly.

  1. Choose Furniture Wisely

Are you thinking of shopping furniture for the living room? Do keep these in your mind: pick the furniture with lightweight appearance. Choose the ones with pale or bright colors and those with legs. Do avoid the box types since it consumes more space. Another thing to notice is that when buying tables, you can try the glasses one. As it is transparent and sees through, it will make the area more open.

  1. Small Furniture

Tight space can be adjusted by putting small-scale furniture. It won’t take more spaces than necessary. Sofa with thin arms or armless chairs is the best option out there. It is simple but not overpowering the room.

 Photo Wall Ideas

Next on our lists of ideas are the photo wall ideas. Turning a vacant space in your wall into a gallery wall can be so much fun. You can try decorating the wall based on the frame size of the picture, or to combine and mix several different ideas as well.

  1. Pretty Pink

Do you have any paintings with pink colors? Do you have the paintings with various shades of pink? Then, try to create a pinky gallery. You can display the watercolors painting and add modern touch by giving some gold or silver accents.

  1. Modern Touch

Putting your black and white paintings or printed pictures would never go wrong. As a matter of fact, black and white are everlasting colors, which means that you can always play with it. Add some vase of flowers and now you are ready to show off!

  1. Abstract Gallery

Bored of the same size frame when putting together your pictures? What about trying to get them to a different size? Even though it is abstract, it still catches attention. And that is what you need for displaying and decorating your room.

  1. Pyramid Display

If you are using the shelf to display your pictures, make it so that at the bottom of the shelf is the small sizes pictures. Move up to the second shelf, you can put the bigger ones, and on top of the shelf, you can just put one or two big pictures or paintings.

  1. Bulletin Board Photo Wall

If you are the type of person who does not want to put anything directly into the wall, you might want to consider to collect your pictures on a big bulletin board. Although you have to work twice, it will be worth it.

 Other Decoration Ideas

Besides those ideas above, you might also want to try some of this.

  1. Chalkboard Wall Paint

With chalkboard, you can write anything, basically! You can write motivation words for the day or simply draw something to make your day brighter. Although originally it works best in kitchen or kids room, I think putting it in the living room gives playful atmosphere.

  1. Rack of Wine Corks

If you have wine corks in your home and you do not know what to do with them, why don’t you turn them into the rack? At first, it is intended to become a rack for a necklace, but I think, it fits as jacket holder too.

  1. Floating Bookshelf

A floating bookshelf? Is that a magic? Of course, it is not! But, you can give an illusion of floating books when making this shelf. It is surely fun and fascinating.

  1. Personalized Handwritten Canvas

Write in a blank canvas something personal. Something you would like the world to understand or know about you. Or, you can pour any artistic ideas, even though people won’t likely understand. But hey, all of us got an artist inside, aren’t we?

  1. Mosaic CD Mirror

Turn unusable CD into mosaic CD mirror. Break or smash them into pieces, and paste them on the mirror frame using hot glue. It is unique and majestic.

  1. Gold Flower Pot or Vase

A luxurious look can be created by spraying metallic gold color to a vase or flower pots. It brings grand design to your home!

Conclusions

Those are ideas to decorate your living room. Actually, it is not limited only to the living room, but other rooms as well.  May you grasp the ideas and implement them cheerfully to your home! Happy decorating!

8 Tips for Decorating Your Apartment

Here are some easy tips to decorate your home.   Taking a few moments to think about your home will help you fully enjoy it.

Think about your home, and answer these questions:

1.  What do you want it to be?    If you want your home to be a tranquil oasis in a busy world, are your colors soothing or do they shout?   If you want a fun place for friends to gather, do you have plenty of seating?

2.  What are your main hobbies and activities?   What do you need for these activities?  For instance, if you have a collection that you work on often, get storage containers for it that can be easily opened or put away.  If it’s a lot of trouble to get at your collection, you either won’t spend the time on it, or else might be tempted to leave it out and risk losing or breaking certain pieces.

3.  Who will be using the space?   How many people will be living there?  What ages?  It’s important for every person to have a space that’s their own.  Whether it’s a special chair, couch, desk or a section of a room, everyone needs ‘their space’.   If you’re planning to do video aerobics, you’ll need room to move around in front of the TV!

4.  What about your things?   It’s easy to become very messy if things don’t have a place.     A small filing cabinet is a must for many people – it’s a great place to store all the papers that you don’t know what to do with!

5.  How much do you really need?  Too much furniture makes a room seem crowded.  The bare essentials are a couch and chair, a table and chairs for eating, a bed and place for your clothes.   After that, think hard about what you need or don’t need.  Will you really use that computer desk – or would you rather sit on the couch with a laptop?

6.  Think about the traffic flow.   You want to be able to walk anywhere in the room without bumping into furniture.   Try drawing furniture placement on paper as a first step.

7.  Pick a focal point – your Greystone Properties home has unique features.  What do you want to see when your first walk in the room?   If you have nice windows with great lighting, are you emphasizing it?   Everyone feels brighter in sunshine.

8.  Think about order and organization.  Do you bring home work every day, or mail, or sports equipment?    Where will you put it?   A large bowl or box near the front door is a great place to drop mail until you go through it later.

9.  Take advantage of free expert advice.  Every store and every product line employs professional designers to put furniture and accessories together.   If you’re unsure of your decorating skills, pick a design you like.   Study how they did it either by looking through a catalogue or going to a store.   It’s all there assembled and displayed for you.   If you like the look, simply do what they’ve done!
