Add a Touch of Metal for and Elegant Living Space

Metallic finishes have gained a lot in popularity recently due to their elegant quality which adds a whole different atmosphere to the living space. No matter whether your home is modern or vintage, you’ll be able to find a perfect metallic tone to give it that final touch. And, in order to help you with that, we’ve prepared a list of some useful and inspirational ideas.

Gold and copper for warm spaces

If you prefer warm vintage spaces, gold and copper are exactly what you’re looking for. For example, you can opt for beautiful gold chandeliers that will make your house look truly glamorous and contribute to that rustic atmosphere which you’re trying to achieve. The same goes for copper which is a great choice for bathrooms, and our favourites are definitely elegant copper faucets that will make your bathroom look exceptionally sophisticated. Finally, other warm-toned materials that we heartily recommend are brass and bronze.

Silver and steel for a cool modern look

On the other hand, if you appreciate the coolness of modern spaces, silver and steel should be your first choice when decorating your place. We particularly like the idea of a silver finish on furniture since it can turn even an old plain piece into a super chic item which will look as good as new. On top of that, this is a great way to combine vintage and modern design and thus strike a perfect balance between them. Just imagine how beautiful your bathroom would look with a Victorian style dresser painted in a modern silver tone! Furthermore, steel has gained quite a lot in popularity recently owing to its affordability and strength. On top of that, when combined with chromium, you get stainless steel that is not susceptible to rust and thus easy to clean. In other words, this material is both super practical and extremely fashionable, so we encourage you to give it a try as soon as possible.

Make your own colour combinations

Another great thing about these metallic shades is that they give you a lot of space to experiment and come up with unique ways of combining them. For example, a brass coffee table can go perfectly with a silver-coloured sofa. Additionally, once you’ve decided on a colour pattern, you can add some other details to your living room to make it look even more stylish. Modern designer mirrors will contribute to making your place look more spacious, and they will serve as a great decoration. On top of that, mirrors will reflect the sunrays thus filling your room with daylight that will additionally accentuate the beauty of metallic tones.

Strike a perfect balance

Although you can’t go wrong with incorporating metallic shades into your house design, you should keep in mind that sticking solely to them can be overwhelming and have the opposite effect. Therefore, we advise you to combine them with some softer textures. For example, if you go for goldish chairs, you can refurbish their seating and back and go for soft velvet that will break the monotony creating an inviting atmosphere in your dining room.

Go minimalistic

Finally, going for metallic shades is a great choice if you want to achieve a minimalistic design. For example, instead of overburdening your place with insufficient accessories, you can go for a beautiful copper flower pot and place it on your coffee table. You’ll be surprised to see how much of a change such a small detail can make. Remember that often, less is more. Basically, all you need to do is find attractive pieces that will catch everybody’s eye, and metallic-coloured ones certainly fall under that category.

As you can see, there are a lot of different ways in which you can incorporate metallic shades into your home design. No matter whether you go for furniture with such finishes or some small accessories, it’s important that you express your own creativity and find your unique way of combining such items. Lastly, it’s most important that you like what you see and thus feel comfortable in your own home.

8 Tips for Decorating Your Apartment

Here are some easy tips to decorate your home.   Taking a few moments to think about your home will help you fully enjoy it.

Think about your home, and answer these questions:

1.  What do you want it to be?    If you want your home to be a tranquil oasis in a busy world, are your colors soothing or do they shout?   If you want a fun place for friends to gather, do you have plenty of seating?

2.  What are your main hobbies and activities?   What do you need for these activities?  For instance, if you have a collection that you work on often, get storage containers for it that can be easily opened or put away.  If it’s a lot of trouble to get at your collection, you either won’t spend the time on it, or else might be tempted to leave it out and risk losing or breaking certain pieces.

3.  Who will be using the space?   How many people will be living there?  What ages?  It’s important for every person to have a space that’s their own.  Whether it’s a special chair, couch, desk or a section of a room, everyone needs ‘their space’.   If you’re planning to do video aerobics, you’ll need room to move around in front of the TV!

4.  What about your things?   It’s easy to become very messy if things don’t have a place.     A small filing cabinet is a must for many people – it’s a great place to store all the papers that you don’t know what to do with!

5.  How much do you really need?  Too much furniture makes a room seem crowded.  The bare essentials are a couch and chair, a table and chairs for eating, a bed and place for your clothes.   After that, think hard about what you need or don’t need.  Will you really use that computer desk – or would you rather sit on the couch with a laptop?

6.  Think about the traffic flow.   You want to be able to walk anywhere in the room without bumping into furniture.   Try drawing furniture placement on paper as a first step.

7.  Pick a focal point – your Greystone Properties home has unique features.  What do you want to see when your first walk in the room?   If you have nice windows with great lighting, are you emphasizing it?   Everyone feels brighter in sunshine.

8.  Think about order and organization.  Do you bring home work every day, or mail, or sports equipment?    Where will you put it?   A large bowl or box near the front door is a great place to drop mail until you go through it later.

9.  Take advantage of free expert advice.  Every store and every product line employs professional designers to put furniture and accessories together.   If you’re unsure of your decorating skills, pick a design you like.   Study how they did it either by looking through a catalogue or going to a store.   It’s all there assembled and displayed for you.   If you like the look, simply do what they’ve done!

How to Choose a Rug for Your Kid’s Room

You may think that choosing a rug for your kid’s room is an easy task, but things aren’t so simple as they seem, as there are different aspects to consider when trying to find the perfect one. The easiest thing to do would be letting your kids choose the rug they like. If you do that, be sure that the rug will probably be to their liking, but will serve no other purpose. In order to find a rug that will be both beautiful and functional to the space, here are several tips on what to look.picture 1 of rug

Size and Type

The first thing to consider when purchasing a rug is its size. This solely depends on how much space is actually available in your kid’s room. Another thing to consider is whether you want a low-pile or high-pile rug. The former are a better option if your kids have a habit of running all over the room, so place it just in the center of the room to cover the biggest empty space. On the other hand, if your children spend most of their time on the floor playing with toys, reading and similar, a much better choice is choosing a high-pile option, as it will provide more comfort and cushioning under the feet.

In a recent chat with a highly-rated retailer of kids rugs, it was brought to my attention that children mostly enjoy non-conventional shapes, such as flowers, animals and cars. There is also a variety of rugs that come in classic geometric shapes (circles, rectangles, squares and triangles). Just make sure that the shape you choose will be compatible to shape of the room.

Color and Pattern

Fortunately there is a never-ending assortment of rugs of different colors, patterns and images. Perhaps the best idea is to let your children choose this element by themselves. Children are very visual so incorporating a rug that will simulate their imagination and creativity is a very important part of choosing the right rug. You can find different motives such as flowers, animals, sports, cars etc. all depending on what your children love. There is also an option of purchasing a rug with their favorite cartoon character that they will absolutely love. There are also interactive and educational rugs that allow your children learn numbers and letters while playing on them.11162762524_502a573118_z

Choosing a perfect rug for your children’s room might get overwhelming and tiresome at certain moments but be rest assured that it will pay off in the long run. If you find a good and quality rug to fit all the needs of your kids, you will certainly be sure that you made a good investment. It is very important to know that the rug for your children’s room is not supposed to be just fun and colorful, but also functional, practical and of good quality. When you consider all of these aspects it will be much easier to find the perfect one that will fit perfectly in their room.

“Nonchalant” Defines Glamour Without Glitz

When it comes to glamour-whether you’re talking about a room interior or a fashion statement-it’s not about the flash.

The juxtaposition of simple and elaborate, mingled with an unexpected touch of extravagance, is finding its way into Manhattan lofts and Malibu Bauhaus beach houses.

The note of glamour is added with one statement piece, and whether it’s a gilded Venetian mirror or a spectacular leather turquoise chaise in the center of an all-white living room, that one piece adds a little luxury to an otherwise casual room setting.

The name of this simple and elegant glamour trend is “nonchalant.”

It is best personified by the new Hollywood-20-something stars and starlets who mix $20 T-shirts with $350 designer shoes and wander the streets of Soho with little kids in tow. It’s like wearing “the little black dress” with one amazing piece of jewelry.

“Glamour doesn’t have to be over the top. One fantastic chair or sofa placed in the midst of a quiet retreat is a wonderful way to celebrate life. Our take on turquoise is our interpretation of an amazing piece of jewelry on our favorite simple dress,” said Pasquale Natuzzi, CEO and chief designer of Natuzzi, manufacturer of sofas, sectionals and chairs.

The chaise is covered in rich, luscious turquoise leather so it can be paired with the matching occasional chair or complemented by the company’s sectional sofa in turquoise Tirelli fabric.

Both the chair and sectional are anchored in stunning, slender, brushed metal legs for a lean Grace Kelly-esque glamorous appeal-simplicity with an elegant, fashionable twist.

You can place all these pieces together or mix and match them with tag sale items, or sparse, starkly contrasting furnishings. Whether choosing one elegant piece-or a set-look for cutting-edge design and superior Italian craftsmanship, says Natuzzi, who has been designing and manufacturing residential furniture since 1959 and has grown into a global leader in the leather upholstery business.
